As soon as the door opens, Gokudera's mind is processing far too quickly for any internal monologue to keep up.

door opened too fast + (no appointments set for this time → wasn't expecting anyone) : recognize man and boy in doorway [ANALYSIS: ENEMY] therefore recommended actions: destroy enemy / protect boss → discern priorities = PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OBTAINED

And he shoves Tsuna to the ground within a second of the first bullet being fired. There's a heavy wooden desk between them and the gunfire, but that won't necessarily save them. In fact it probably won't. Physically shielding Tsuna and drawing his own automatic from inside his jacket, Gokudera waits for the gunfire to die down so he can return fire without fear of being immediately killed.

It was like a normal day. Nothing unusual. I mean, unusual for mafia things. Until the door opened and all of a sudden I'm on the floor. It has happened before. People attack me all the time once they know who I am.

But, this was different. It was at home.

G-Gokudera?

I know it's him that pushed me down without even looking. It's always him.

It was an unspoken thing. Gokudera would take care of Tsuna as part of his first response while Yamamoto was in charge of buying them the time they needed to get to safety. He started firing back immediately with twin revolvers, taking cover but never stopping until his barrels ran empty. He took a shot to the shoulder in the madness and barely missed another one that could have got him in the belly had he not turned.

Yamamoto pressed his back against a narrow column, sliding in new bullets into their honeycomb slots and looking to see that Gokudera and Tsuna had made it to some kind of safety.

I love this sound.

The beauty of full metal jacket rounds is that hiding loses much of its effectiveness. The bullets shred the table heavily, and would have hit their mark had Goss not been distracted by the dual wielding henchman. He knew he was slightly safer as long Yamamoto had to stay in cover. But that wouldn't last long, since fifty bullets ran out fast when you were firing at 600 rounds per minute.

Goss knew deep down, when sheer volume of fire wasn't enough, the solution was to use more guns.

He didn't even bother to hide from Yamamoto's shots, taking three or four in the chest (his ballistic vest, to be exact). He staggered back under the force, but kept to his feet, pulling out a bloodstained sawed-off shotgun from beneath his coat. This one was loaded with special ammunition as well- Dragon's Breath shotgun rounds. He only had two loaded, but each one would potentially start several small fires in the room ( ... )
