I come into the bar and sit down at the counter, signaling for a drink. I don't have to say what, they know me. Know me well enough to know my credit is running out. There ain't work for an ex-cop. Especially not for an ex-cop that fought the system and tried to turn in the dirty cops, and then ended up in front of an equally dirty judge with their crimes laid at his feet.

He was already jobless and broke, and a step away from homeless, two steps from floating face first in the bay. But that was Wonderland.

Look what the dog dragged in, another down trodden soul without a dime to pay and I've got bills... Well what's more freebie for a guy who looks as miserable as him. I pour him a drink and water it down with more ice than necessary. I'll keep him a little thirsty for now.

This one's on the house. Looking for a little work?

I look him in the face and take the drink. Tastes like pity.

I got a line out, but no one is biting.

Sounds like starvation.

There's a smile on my face but I'm not sincere. A guy like him is probably trouble. However no one who works here is good news.

How about you help me out for a little while just until things pick up. You look smart enough to make a good thug.

[The detective enters the bar, looking worn down from another frustrating day on the streets.]

Another night with little to no action. I'm almost thinking these thugs are getting smarter. Either that, or I'm beginning to lose it.

Perfect. An empty seat at the bar.

What's the news, Haru? Anything since the last time I stopped in?

[Haru sets down the usual for the familiar face and smiles. He puts a hand on the bar then props up his chin with the other.]

Oh nothing much~ What would you be doing on this side of Wonderland. Not that it matters what side you're on around here. You looking for something in particular tonight?

It'll cost you Gumshoe. Charms are low penny in this establishment. I can never be sure how much I can trust these gumshoes. They come and go but problems are steady. Who isn't corrupt these days? Everyone wants something and usually it isn't what's on the menu. What's your angle, detective? Are you here to try and save us all? Or will you fall to pieces like the ones before you?

Just making the usual rounds. Seems I've come up empty handed today, I'm afraid.

[He takes a swig from his glass, thankful for the drink.]

And about something in particular...it's just been too quiet around here lately.

Of course I'm hoping this kid has a lead or two. It'd at least give me and the other boys something to do. Anything, really.

So you're going to bluff me? Fine two could play at this game. I've got nothing to loose~

[The quarter leans back and lights a cigarette for himself. He speaks in a sweetly childish voice.]

Well Detective take your pick. It's a dangerous little town and I'm just a bartender sitting in the middle of it~<3

[Unfortunately it's about this time that a man who casually approached the piano to talk to the player starts to get loud. Haru tilts his head quietly trying to listen without looking too suspicious. However it's hard miss-]

"Hey Seeu, if your husband around, I thought I'd spring for a little action."

[The notes go sour on the piano but the redhead man seated there doesn't say a word. Haru's hand on the bar tenses as if he's concerned something is about to go down.]

W-where were we detective?

[Yujinn slinks across the bar and leans on the counter?]

What's good tonight?

Same thing that was good any night, because the stock never changed. I had the same fake smile on my face I wore every night, although tonight it seemed like I would get to do some singing, as opposed to my other profession.

[Haru showed his teeth in a vague impression of a smile.]

Milk sounds good for an employee. You shouldn't drink before we open. No one wants watch you stumble around.

White flowers in the gutter that's the first thing that drew me to Yujinn. Something pure in spite of being in such a dirty place like Wonderland. I learned quickly that the flowers were only a lure for the sweet poison he produced. He was stronger than he looked but frail because he believed he wasn't. All the same I thought we would watch out for each other till the end. Instead he ran off and married that fool of a piano player with a tendency to get his hands a little too dirty. I will never understand someone like Yujinn can have such bad taste.

[The piano strikes a sour note but the playing continues.]

I haven't ever stumbled, except when I'm supposed to.

Haru could play an adolescant like he was ten years under his real age, depsite being downright vicious if he had to be. That had always suprised client who tried to rough him up. We used to work the trade together, until I fell in love, and he bought the bar. Now he;s the boss, but the backroom here was safer than the alley's in Wonderland, and Seeu got to play his gig at the piano.

Yujinn could cut to the quick when he wanted to. Sometimes I wondered if he married that fool to spite me. Or was it something else? After awhile I realized it didn't matter. All that mattered was keeping this place a float and seeing if I could make it to the next day. Forget about long term goals. Right now was hard enough.

[The quarter's teeth are all showing and if he had fangs still they'd be showing.]
