Of course, Flay didn't need any convincing to head straight into the tunnels. Sword balanced on his shoulder, the alchemist examined his surroundings. Yes, there was no doubt about it--these caves were the hiding place of a super-powerful boss monster!

And he would find it. And kick its ass. AND ALL WOULD PRAISE HIM IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE!

"AHAHAHAHAHAHA, YESSS!" he laughed, raising a fist into the air. "And once I beat the bad guy down here, "I'll beat that monster and SAVE THE DAY IN THE NAME OF JUSTICE! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!"

And now he just had to wait for the rest of Team Flay to show up (in other words, anyone else who happened to be curious about the caves and wander down there without escaping Flay's notice).

Kobato had rushed down to the caves not long after Flay-san had announced that they were going. She was eager to finally be able to do something worthwhile to help her friends. If they exit really was down in the caves, then they would all be so happy! Everyone could go back home! It would be so wonderful. Kobato was sure it would heal the hearts of all of her friends, and everyone else as well!

She hadn't counted on the caves looking so scary though. She didn't know what seemed to be dripping down from the walls and the ceiling, but the entire place was horrifying to her. It looked like it was from a scary movie on TV, or a haunted house, or something else frightening like that. It really, truly, gave her the creeps.

" Flay-san!" she called out, rushing over to him. Kobato was very glad she did not have to be there alone for very long. " Did...D-Did you just say there was a monster here?" She really hoped he hadn't.

"Of course there is!" the alchemist declared, completely ignoring how terrified Kobato looked. "I bet it's some kind of horrible demon, with fangs and claws and three heads! And it probably breathes fire and lightning and feasts on the flesh of its victims!

"But we can take him, right?" He grinned down at her, dropping his sword down from his shoulders so he could lean on it. "Nothing can defeat Team Flay! Not even a horrible man-eating cave demon!"

" R-Right!" Kobato said, trying to be strong. " Not even a horrible...m-man-eating...d-de..."

Unfortunately, the concept of a possible three-headed, fire-and-lightning-breathing, man-eating demon shook her resolve, just a tiny bit. But then she shook her head.

" No matter what it is! If it will get everyone out of here, then I'm sure we can defeat it!" she said. " No matter what it is, we'll get past it for everyone's sake!"

Aang bounced from wall to wall like a pinball - a very buoyant pinball, anyway, and the breezes from his airbending pushed the stale air through the caves.

Those holes looked awfully deep - and just right for an airbender to explore, if they weren't where the monsters everybody was worried about were hiding.

"Heeeeeey!" he called down one of the holes. "Anybody down there?"

His voice echoed back at him as he bent over the hole, listening with a hand to his ear.

James had run down almost immediately after he had his things together. A whole new area to explore! He could barely contain his excitement. He was sure there had to be something down there, whether it was an exit or treasure or a monster or anything, really. James, in his cockiness, was sure he could handle anything the caves had to offer.

" Lumos," he said, lighting the area a bit with the tip of his wand.

And there, near the entrance, he waited for his companions. He had rushed ahead, proclaimed that he would meet them all down there. There, he would have to be patient and wait for his companions, but he certainly wouldn't be bored. He could stare up at the melted brick in awe all day if he wanted to.

" ...I wonder what did that?" he said out loud, as he pondered what it would take to replicate it.
