James was at a loss for words, and he hadn't even met the boy yet. Or, well. He hadn't met him in person. Having read at least one of the books though, he felt almost like he knew him somehow, even if he hadn't been there, but he knew it wasn't the same, that it wasn't even close.

He sort of wished he had been cooler, when first introducing himself, but the shock had been so overwhelming that it couldn't be helped. James had wanted to be cooler when heading downstairs as well, but it felt as though he was tripping over his own two feet. He got there though, somehow. Lily didn't seem to be there yet, but Harry was there, by the pear tree.

Once again, James failed in appearing calm, cool, and collected, as he caught sight of Harry. Seeing Harry in person was an entirely different thing all together. He was really there.

The moment Harry had divulged the descriptions of his location, Lily left her room immediately to greet him, her heart all but skipping beats as she hurried down the halls and stair cases. She could hardly believe that he was here. Finally. Thankfully.

When she reached the tree, she stopped dead in her tracks as she spotted him. Dark hair. Glasses. A little skinny, but not terribly so. Handsome. So very much like his father. Lily flushed a faint shade of red as she spared a moment to steal a glance at James, but found herself unable to keep her attentions too far from Harry.

Briefly, she wondered how she would be feeling if she hadn't read the books. Would she be as nervous or speechless? Would she have been so anxious to reach his side? So willing to plow down the hallways to meet the son she hadn't even birthed yet? Would she love him as much as she already did?

"Harry?" She called out as she approached him, her eyes welling with tears as she extended an arm toward him, all too eager to close the distance. He was here, he was ( ... )

Harry felt momentarily rooted in his spot. He was so beyond overjoyed to see his parents, people he never had the chance to know and it was all crashing upon him in a surreal blur of emotions that had simmered for so long without coming into their full form. Harry felt so choked up, afraid and overwhelmed by this indescribable, irreplaceable feeling.

"Mum... dad..." He walked to them, holding out his arms to hug them, on the verge of crying and hardly finding the words. "You're... here..."

James had not read nearly so much, but that did not mean he didn't care. He was amazed, reading his one book, at how much he did care for this boy he had never met before, how much he worried about his well-being as it went on, and how angry he had been that he was shoved in a cupboard under the stairs for most of his childhood.

So James opened his arms wide, accepting the hug and grinning even wider. He didn't have to say how happy he was - it was written all over his face, in true Potter fashion.

" We are," he said, raising his hand to ruffle Harry's hair, just a bit. " We're here and so are you."

She couldn't begin to describe her emotions as he approached them. Instead, she allowed James to speak for the both of them, eagerly accepting Harry into her arms the moment he was within arm's reach.

There were things she might have scolded him for-- things he'd already done, things he had yet to do-- Already, she felt like so much a mother, and the feeling was only amplified by the embrace. But she was quiet; inescapably overcome by her relief and joy in seeing him.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she very slowly began to pull away from the embrace, but only just enough to smooth the fabric at his shoulders, her cheeks wet with tears, but grinning ear to ear. "We just have to make the best of it."
