1. Pick a pairing or a character 2. Ask me my particular head-canon regarding something about them 3. Post to your journal to share your own head-canon
really getting together would have to be 3-6 months after the war. and the delay would mostly be because of administrative crap as all the five nations are trying to play nice with each other yet still get paid, and the fact that Konoha wasn't completely rebuilt before the war started, and the Sasuke problem needs to be resolved. Naruto, however, would have "Hero Status" and thus a few extra days off, which he would spend hanging out in Suna (or he'd send a clone which would 'report back to him' how Gaara's doing every few weeks).
while Naruto's not too certain why he goes through all the trouble, Gaara on the other hand, really realized his feelings during the war after his public confession and subsequent battle with his father, which went a long way to healing those slightly 'off' points of his incomplete interpersonal skills. it would be Gaara would initiate the relationship.
would they last? yes. because they really do look at each other like: as-long-as-i-breathe-you'll-never-be-lonely.
*nod*nod* Makes sense, yes. For all that Gaara's somewhat stunted, I think he's a bit more in touch with himself, while Naruto is often clueless about the finer nuances of interpersonal relationships, and, like you say, would probably be manifesting his feelings for Gaara in lots of indirect ways long before he realizes why.
And I definitely think they'd last - they're 'synched' in ways too deep not to.
