This episode left me wondering just what my final opinion would be, after more consideration. On the one hand, it shifted back to the “folklore of the week” concept, with the victims once again being young attractive women. NBC has given new drama series “Grimm” a full-season order. Additionally, NBC, which opted to keep “Grimm” in its Friday 9 PM slot on its recently released midseason schedule, is giving the fairytale procedural a tryout in the Thursday 10 PM slot. After the pilot episode of “Grimm”, there was some minor discussion on it during a recording session for the Critical Myth Podcast. And one very strong opinion was that it was a better pilot in many respects than the pilot for “Once Upon a Time”, but that the setup wasn’t necessarily there for an ongoing series. I was on the fence as to whether or not to cover “Grimm” at all, because compared to “Once Upon a Time”, all the advance promotional materials felt rather bland. As I mentioned on the Critical Myth Podcast, the entire premise felt like the uninspired love child between a middling CBS procedural and “Supernatural”. I’m not sure that description ( Read more... )
