Grammie (One of Many Posts to Come)

My grandmother is crazier than I am. She is so wholly focused on having a great grandchild that we recently had the following exchange. No, I am not kidding. (Oh, when you hear her voice in your head, she's from the coast of Maine. She has this awesome downeast sound that makes everything that much funnier.)

My Grandma brought up wanting a great-grandchild every time I talked to her since I was 22. I only got a short break while I when I got a divorce. Then, I started dating again and she wanted that baby again. She didn't care that we weren't married when I got pregnant. Her words were "thank God almighty I'll live to see my great grandchild!"

OMG I totally know how that feels. My father is just as bad. He uses his superpowers for EVIL. "You know, I had that transplant. I could start rejecting that liver any day... It's always been my dream to be a grampa." I say the eff word at him then, and he says, "hey, you know what it is. You're, like, halfway there!"

My mother was like that even before we were married, we'd come visit because we were living together and she would ask are you pregnant yet. She wanted to have grandchildren before she passed on. She managed to live long enough to see both kids born and spend lots of time with them before she passed on in 2001

I'm gonna buy a doll and send it to her. "Here you go, Grammie. You have your own personal great-grandbaby now." It's like, if I could magically pull it off, I sure would.

"Mail me a tolerable man and I will mail you a great-grandbaby within the year." You know?! *grin*
