boring debate is boring

my prediction: the democrat will answer questions with extremely dry facts and basically not embarrass himself at all. the republican will dodge nine tenths of the ones she is asked by vomiting forth some talking point gobbledygook, but will only be challenged on the matter by some bloggers and possibly keith olbermann. then later, the polling ( Read more... )

The conservatives have been railing against Ifill as a moderator, because she has a book about Obama in the works. It will be interesting to see if that changes her demeanor.

Two things to remember here. First, everyone predicted that Edwards would destroy Cheney because Cheney was this shadowy figure from an unpopular administration who didn't speak very loudly and Edwards was this quick-witted ex-defense attorney with a gift for public speaking. Didn't happen. Second, the result of the VP debate has very little impact on the overall race.

Usually has very little impact. This race, however, is tight and the vice presidential nominees have been very influential in the polls thus far, more so than in any race since I've been old enough to know what's going on.

Fivethirtyeight.com disagrees that it's tight. At least right now. I'm convinced that if McCain wins this election, it will be because the election is rigged (much like the 2004 election was rigged -- yay!). I'm not willing to admit that America is that stupid yet.

I probably shouldn't be so cynical.

If it makes you feel any better, the polls have been sliding in Obama's favor since the last debate. There wasn't any big, morning after shake-up, but there has been a nice, Democrat-leaning roll since then.

Boring plus highly painful! I woke up this morning with a discussion of larval neocon debate tactics. Plus, we'll get to see Biden play the milquetoast centrist card. But I'll watch it anyway.

The subject line demonstrates that you are out of your fucking mind. It's never a dull moment when they they allow Palin to open her trap.

...because the thing is, Bush spouts right-wing talking points. Palin can't even do that, can't stay "on message" -- ask her a question and it's right-wing, non-sequitir word salad. And of course, conservatives have been criticizing her and the latest polls show a meaningful lead.

Maybe. But after so many years, "coherent" right-wing talking points and incoherent ones sound exactly the same -- because neither one ever really has much to do with the matter at hand. When I hear Palin's voice, it sounds like the exact same high-pitched sort of keening noise that Bush has been producing for the past eight years. I mean yeah, it is delivered even more gratingly, but I am still 100% bored out of my fucking skull with it.

Dude, I mean, I can hardly even make it through her lulzy youtube material.

The difference, I think, is that most of the conservatives who receive their talking points at least share the same opinions as the talking point writers. Palin doesn't have any opinions of her own on the issues at hand.
