Shuttle Bay - Day 47 (Late) - OPEN

Nov 23, 2010 03:15

It was late night ship time, most of the crew sleeping in preparation for the start of the away mission in the morning. Adrian was fairly sure he was meant to be sleeping too. Even after all this time, though, he still tended toward insomnia the night before a mission. So it was that rather than sleeping he was in the shuttle bay, checking over the ( Read more... )

David was practicing his insomniac skills himself. Though he was no longer in tumultuous waters of drowning fear and anxiety leading to frustrated anger, the nervousness and the excitement were lingering ( ... )

"Adrian," he replied, leaning against the hatch and grinning at him. "David, right?" The questioning tone was more a habit than anything else. Even on a ship this size, six plus feet of bald greenness tended to stick out in your memory.

And David wasn't one bit surprised that Adrian recalled his name. Six plus feet of bald greenness definitely had self-awareness.

He walked closer and leaned against a ship parallel to the one Adrian was in. "That's me," he said, tapping the PADD against his palm as if to punctuate the reply.

"Adrian. Well...I got the A and d right. And the n. And Adrian is a lot easier to remember than..." he held up the PADD to his face and squinted at one of the names "...y'know. I'm not even going to try and pronounce this. I'm pretty sure I'd hurt myself."

David gave an easy smile to him as he held the PADD down. "So. Nice night for not sleeping?" He wasn't judgmental. Hypocrisy wasn't one of his traits.

"I've been called worse," Adrian said with a wink. He slid down the side of the airlock to sit, one leg hanging down toward the ground. "Great night. Nice and quiet." He gave the shuttle a pat; "I'm flying her tomorrow, just thought I'd make sure she was on form beforehand."

One of the advantages to being Keenser was not needing as much sleep as the Human crew that served aboard the Enterprise. Skipping one night was certainly in no way going to affect his alertness or his ability to do his job on the mission tomorrow, and in fact, he preferred to stay awake. Doing so was so much easier than trying to force himself to sleep, and then trying to force himself to wake up.

The one problem with this plan was a lack of anything interesting to do. Sitting in his quarters all night would be unbelievably boring, and he'd already done his semi-daily workout. So he'd been wandering, looking for something to do, and he'd eventually found himself in the shuttle bay.

He hadn't been aware that someone was in the shuttle he was currently investigating. When the Human poked his head out and spoke, he glanced up, startled for a moment. The man looked vaguely familiar, but Keenser wasn't sure where he'd seen him before. "Am here," he answered, stepping closer to the open airlock.

"Oh, hey man," Adrian replied, recognising the little knobbly guy from the mess hall the other week. He was pretty distinctive after all. "How's it going?"

And that was one of the disadvantages to being Keenser. People remembered him when he didn't remember them, and some Humans took offense to not being remembered. "Go well," he replied, before gesturing at the shuttle. "Adjustments?" Ade would just have to forgive him for not being much good at socializing.

"Uh...yeah, actually I was hoping someone from engineering would come by," Adrian said; "I've been getting some funny readings on the starboard engine - you mind taking a look?"
