Gaila hummed to herself as she finished her engineering reports. She was overjoyed to be back on full and active duty; she hated sitting around and doing nothing, and she loved getting to work with the Enterprise's spectacular engines. After she submitted the reports, she decided to go visit David and ask him when they could hang out again. She

He closed and slid aside the forms he was working on.
"Gaila, of course! I was just finishing up. How've you been?" he asked.

When he asked how she was, she actually considered the question for a moment. She was worried about Nyota, and her conversation with Scotty was weighing on her heavily... but she was glad to be back on duty, and her faith in friendship had never been stronger. "It's been a weird week, but I'm doing well," she replied. A lot had happened... including, of course, meeting David, which was also a strange experience but one she was grateful for.
"How are you?" she asked.

"I'm doing good. A little bogged down. 75% of my job entails writing reports and filling out forms. I underestimated the amount of people I'd be seeing on a regular basis," he admitted.
"But what brings you here, Gaila?" And he smiled, because he had a suspicion that it probably wasn't for a session. That would take a little more time.

Her mouth quirked up at the corner. "Sounds lovely," she said, a little sarcastically. "I don't actually mind reports when I have to identify engineering problems, but if it's regarding personnel or anything administrative, I can't stand it." Tilting her head, she added, "I suppose having more people than you expected is better than having less, even if it means you're busy."
Smiling a little wider, she said, "Well, you still owe me ice cream, and I believe I promised to cook for you."

His father’s theory brought a frown to her face. She listened carefully and then considered for a moment. A part of her was concerned about what it must be like for him to wonder if he was abandoned. Another part was wondering what she could tell him, and another was considering the truth. She felt a pang of guilt that the later two were not one in the same, but there was still a limit to what she could say about Orion. “It is unlikely that you were abandoned,” she said slowly. “Although female children are more highly valued than males, males are not considered valueless. Abandoning children is not unheard of, but generally only happens when a child born to an extremely poor family is deemed…” defective. “too ill to survive.” Suddenly she felt sick. It didn’t matter that child abandonment was rare. She was ( ... )

He listened to her talking and took in what she was saying. He found his hand wandering to her arm and hoped it was okay that his hand now covered her wrist. This wasn't easy for her to talk about. It wasn't necessarily easy for him to hear. Not that he had any emotional ties to Orion society aside from the ties he'd given to himself. But, of course, he was Orion, he reminded himself. This was part of his...people's culture.
His thumb worked in circles on the joint of her wrist. He knew she was taking no pleasure in discussing this. Still, curiosity ached after she finished her last sentence.
"To...rescue them?" he said, frowning and not understanding. He shook his head. "From what?"

Only this time, he was playing the part of his mother.
"WHAT THE FUCK!"

She looked over at him, fighting down her embarrassment and instead flashing him a bright smile. "Hello Tony! We were just about to have ice cream. Would you like to join us?"

"Hi...Tony. I'm David. What-um-what she said. It's chocolate..." David said with a grin, pointing with his thumb to the thawing tub. He cleared his throat. "And if you want we still have some stir fry and arepas left...for..." He trailed off.

He just stared, letting them stew in their own juices.
He flipped on one of the overhead vents and pulled out a cigarette, lighting it he continued to glare at the two Orions.
"So, what are you two up to?"
