Sickbay - Day 39 - Private/Unfinished

If there was one thing Christine didn't like, it was being disliked. Not that she thought she was suddenly hated for her small temper tantrum and subsequent slacking off, but, still, it was probably safe to assume that a man as prone to sourness as Leonard McCoy would have been sour over that ( Read more... )

Sour was a good word to describe Leonard right now. Out stuck in a goddamn turbolift nearly all night long would do that to a person. Not that he would say it was a complete hardship. His company, Chekov, had been... interesting. But damn, he could see why some people were claustrophobic. He didn't think he was. Still. But... damn.

He'd had little sleep after the incident. For one, it'd been early morning when they'd finally gotten outta there. And then, once back in his quarters, Leo had had a damned of a time calming down enough to rest. That ordeal, compounded by all the other crap he'd been carrying around lately, made for a very exhausted mind. And a few scant hours hadn't been enough.

So yeah, sour mood. Sour taste in his mouth. Thank god he'd had time to shower and change, removing any sour smell going along with that.

... Speaking of smells, though. That smelled like... Was that... brownies? At this time of day ( ... )

Stepping forward with a prim little clearing of her throat, Christine said, "Good morning, Doctor." And then she offered the brownies. "These are for you. They're not a bribe, simply 'I hope you don't hate me for that hour or so the other day I sort of hated you' brownies."

Seeing Christine in his office was, well, a bit of a surprise after the last few days of barely seeing her. Even when they were working side by side. He couldn't deny it. It'd been lonely without her smiles, her jokes, her input. But he'd known she'd be upset about the fake out they'd organized. Had considered it an acceptable risk in the bigger scheme of things. Not that her regard wasn't important him. But as a doctor, and the CMO, he needed to know that the next FUBAR wouldn't be on Medical's head.

Leonard quickly smoothed over the surprised look and greeted her with a cautious nod. "Nurse." Then that look was back again as he stared at the plate of brownies. Hot damn, he hadn't been hallucinating after all! "All of them? Wait... hate you? You think I hate you? That's kinda ironic, given the circumstances, Christine. If anything, I should be bringin' you brownies ( ... )

"Don't worry, I haven't gone anywhere." Laughing, relieved, she sat in the indicated chair. It was used to her by now, no doubt. "The thing is, instead of just doing my job, I got emotional. And I feel like I need to apologize for that, not just on a professional level but a personal one. You're supposed to be able to count on me to do my job, not get huffy over things I've really no right to get huffy over."

She gave a sincere smile, wanting him to know that this was important to her. "So, I'm sorry for that and eveything else I've done out of character or out of line lately. It's not fair to you."
