Spock stood slowly clad only in his personal clothes, a gray Vulcan sweater and black pants with gray knitted socks. He was expecting the Captain mostly so he when he opened the door to find Lt. Beck standing there he raised an eyebrow.
“Lt. Beck,” he acknowledged wondering why this man would be here at his personal quarters.

"Uh..." Donnie scratched the back of his head and looked down before he could look up again. He held out the fish bowl to the commander. (Who wasn't wearing his uniform, by the way, which tripped Donnie off more than he thought it would.)
"I made a fish. I th-thought you might, uhm, might like it. It's from Vulcan. It's not real. Fire Katra. If you don't want it I can take it back. F-fully formed AI personality. You can...change it if you want. Not that, I mean, you probably don't have time. To. To change it. An-anyway. Here it is if you want it," he cleared his throat, "sir."
Donnie would never be called graceful in speaking. But he had a damn fine fish. Whatever that was worth.

Spock took the bowl and looked at the fish in amazement, it wasn’t showing on his face but his human eyes let a little shine through. He watched the fish closely holding it up just enough to do so before turning his eyes back on Donnie. He nodded his head once.
“That is very kind of you Lt. Beck, I believe the correct response would be for me to say ‘Thank you’.”

He nodded and turned to go then turned back. "I...uh...I started meditating! The thing you said, focusing in on one thing helped. Reciting pi helps. Um...yeah, anyway." He clapped his hands together.
He didn't get the true significance of his gift. But he was pleased at how closely it had been studied. It meant that it was something worth the study, he supposed. "I'm glad you like it."
He turned to go for real this time.
