The humans on the ship were being extremely obnoxious. Yes, he was a human, he admitted. But he had no idea why everybody in his species was acting as such. Apparently there was an observance going around surrounding the ideals of a spiritual man wearing red who had pet reindeer and went by the name "Nicholas." (He got the gist that he might have also owned smaller race of indentured servants

Rueben was making his way to the party, all existed. Christmas was his favorite holiday since it had been his daughter’s favorite. He'd had her present ready for this Christmas so that when he got back to Earth he could put it by her headstone like he did every year but for now he was going to enjoy himself.
The medic was just rounding the corner and walking into the Rec room as he bumped into a guy just standing in the door way, well that was slightly weird. People don’t normally just stand in doorways.
"Fuck," he mumbled. "Sorry man, you okay?" he looked the guy over to make sure then turn his eyes on the room so see the awesomeness that was the Christmas Party. A grin broke out across his face.
He frowned at the man's seemingly overjoyed face. And frowned even deeper when whoever this stranger was recognized the significance of the loud decor, something that he just couldn't recall.
"Okay. What? What, why are you doing that," Donnie said, aggravated. "Everyone has been smiling like that today. L-like a section of their brain decided to take shoreleave all of a sudden. And-and have you noticed that the rec room has turned into an arboretum?" Donnie pointed at the tree over in the corner. "I'm sure the botanist will enjoy that."
Rueben chuckled a little and shrugged. "Why am I smiling?” was he really being asked that at a Christmas party? He shook his head a little and answered. “Cause it’s my daughters favorite holiday and I promised her I'd enjoy myself." The medic chuckled at the aggravated man, hoping he wasn’t the cause as he kind of tugged the man out of the door way. "Yeah the Rec Room looks amazing doesn’t it?" he smiled at the room again. "And it’s a party man, be joyful!" He frowned a bit at the guy.
“Why aren’t you joyful…? What’s your name?” Rueben hadn’t ever met the guy so the question wasn’t rude but he felt kinda awkward asking that.
Fresh off a shift, the first thing he did was make straight for the buffet and pile up a plate with food; the chicken drumsticks in particular were excellent. Next up on the agenda was a drink. Glass in hand and rapidly emptying plate balanced in the crook of his elbow, he made his way through the slowly growing crowd to look for Chris and Tonia. The girls had really outdone themselves this; the rec room looked amazing.
Shift change meant the crowd was picking up. It also meant that she was making one last round to make sure everything was in order before disappearing off to Sickbay to make sure none of her staff was trying to worm their way out of festivities. However, a quick conversation with someone she owed an apology would never go entirely amiss.
Christine made a beeline for Scott, arriving to his left while he was looking right. "Better not drop that plate," she said, indicating the precarious situation on his arm by way of greeting.
He started slightly at being unexpectedly addressed, managing to save the plate with a quick tilt of his arm. "Cheers for that," he said dryly. "How you doin'?"

He crossed his arms.
"So what's going on here, anyway?"
