Gym - Day 28 (Morning) - Open

Dec 01, 2009 10:49

One thing that had become painfully clear during their disaster of a first mission was that certain members of the crew - naming no names - were in dire need of a refresher course in basic hand-to-hand. Of course offcially there was no good reason for the head of security to be leading said refresher courses personally. But Creed was generally of ( Read more... )

Clad in white starfleet issued running shoes, blue starfleet issued shorts, and a white shirt of his own Donnie fidgeted in line with his peers.

He'd been talked into this, he remembered. Jim Gruney had offered the final blow, convincing him that he wouldn't be able to hold himself up in a fight. And, on a flagship, there were possibilities of breaches of security, holding of fugitives, and don't forget that incident in medical.

Paranoia helped immensely in bringing him to this specific place. So, determined to start out on a good note, Donnie raised his skinny little arm. Maybe if he volunteered it wouldn't be as bad.

She considered her first volunteer, quietly sizing him up. Huh. Well he had guts for stepping up, she'd give him that.

She pointed at one of the punching bags hanging from the ceiling. "Alright. Let's see what you've got."

Donnie nodded and rubbed underneath his nose as he looked at the punching bag. He did his best not to glance at the people around him. He took a breath and balled his fist up ( ... )

"Right." Oh dear lord they had a lot of work to do. Her follow-up question would have been to ask if he had any sort of combat training, but the answer to that was quite readily apparent. "Right," she repeated, half addressing her volunteer and half the watching crowd, "Let's start with your stance. You're off-balance. You want to keep your centre of gravity low and centred, so it's harder for your opponent to knock you down." She demonstrated herself as she spoke, settling into a defensive stance.

Despite some reservations, Leonard had decided to attend this training session. Not because he didn't think it was necessary. No, quite the unfortunate contrary. All through Bacchus, his nose had been painfully rubbed in the fact that Leonard desperately needed more fight savvy. Oh, he could punch alright or blunt force trauma with a convenient prop. But he lacked any complex skill or intuition for actual brawling. Just tended to reply on his size and strength to either take the other down with the initial blow. Or whether the beating until they were exhausted.

Leonard kept quiet when Creed called for volunteers. Standing there in regulation gym wear, medical bag hanging from shoulder. It was always good to be prepared, after all. Especially when it'd be his ass eventually being handed to him. Or right now Donnie's. Damn, the man had balls.
