Rec Room - Day 20 - Open/Unfinished

There really wasn't much to do, not now that they were en route towards their next assignment. Kirk kind of enjoyed the free time -- holed up in the recreation room after his shift, playing chess against a computer panel, the game a reprieve for his mind. The computer normally won -- when you had something that could calculate any game's turn out,

She wished she was good at chess. Then maybe she'd be able to say something cute and funny and intelligent that would wow her captain.

"I taught my younger brother to play." she put her hands on her hips and continued wryly, "He turned around a beat my ass two weeks later. Haven't really played since."

"That's how it was with my brother," Kirk grinned back at her, admittedly a little overconfidently when the screen flashed 'CHECKMATE' at him. "It's fun. I'll reteach you if you don't remember how to play. How about it?"

She snorted, yeah, Kirk the tactical genus was gonna teach her chess.

"Um, sure, I think I still remember how all the pieces move. Queen's the most powerful piece, the horse moves all crazy, queen gets her own color."

But yeah, how was this a good idea? By the end of it? He was gonna think she was a complete idiot.

"Pretty much." Kirk grinned wider and hesitated, the three dimensional chessboard back up on the cabinet that held all of the Terran and various other forms of entertainment. "If you don't want to play, that's cool too." He shrugged slightly, not as enthusiastic as he could be about it. "Did you need something?"

Both Muns have lost the feel for this thread.

Therefore:
~ Assume that Kirk kicked Rand's ass in chess.
~ There was some snappy banter where Rand shared some more scuttlebutt with Kirk.
~ Rand didn't suck completely at chess. Kirk is just that good.
