Last year, Geldeheim City had glittered for them, cold and translucent like a collection of great icecubes. This time, it was as if someone had taken a hammer to those icecubes. Many buildings still stood, but some were bisected, shattered by beams of power, or perpetually burning with magefire. Some of the city's ubiqutuous flat 3d projection ( Read more... )

The People's Glorious Educational Animal Menagerie (newly renamed) isn't in great shape. Inclement weather has messed things up. But the ruling council has decided that people need distraction from their power plays some cheering up, so funds have been authorized from the treasury. The heat is back on, at least, so the tropical beasts aren't dying any more. Which is good, because it's an open air zoo ( ... )

The girl won't be awake for about forty five minutes, although she shivers in her sleep...from cold, maybe. She's remarkably warm. Anyone who didn't know her nature might fear she was feverish.

They are right in the middle of a zoo though, so they might want to take her somewhere relatively safe. Bring her back to your guest rooms, or the station?

Anders rolls his eyes. "Of course you'd have bought her. The 'people's valuable monster' would certainly be an asset they'd love to liquidate. Forget the breeding program our immobilized friend was talking about," and ugh, he puts that plan together with this fragile girl in Hawke's arms, and he fervently hopes the Geldeheim provisional government hasn't yet managed to arrange any dragon dates.

His jaw clenches.

"Take her from this unclean place," he says to Hawke who's holding her, and this is not a command, far from it. It's a plea.

Unclean? It's a zoo, Anders. Get a grip. The Geldeheimians (or whatever) didn't know she was a damaged girl in a dragon's body. Sure, this group has figured it out in a manner of minutes, but let's face it, they're an unusual bunch.

Hawke flashes him a what does it look like I'm doing? glance. "Let's get her back to the station for now, our guest rooms here are too vulnerable. If she has a home, we can get her there afterwards; if not...well, we'll find something. Thanks, Roxie, and sorry to interfere with your plan. That would've been quieter, but we're stuck with this one now." Contrary to popular belief, Hawke's quite fond of the quiet options. She gets enough of the other sort. "Obi-wan, hello, you're just in time for a dramatic rescue, aren't you lucky? If anyone asks, she was with us all along and collapsed from a fever, so we're taking her home. Given how hot her skin is, that'll be believable. We can fight it out with the government once she's safe."

She's already moving towards the station, whatever that involves.

Anders is rather occupied with trying to settle Justice-or-is-it-Vengeance, and Roxie's presence isn't helping with that, so he doesn't fully process the nuances of Anders, you ignorant slut overreacting thing, you implicit in that look from Hawke, even though it is a look he really ought to recognize.

Later on, however, if the mission is discussed, he'll reiterate his skepticism regarding Roxie's putative plan, and in general, you guys,

Anders: rivalry (+5)

That's right. For all of you! (Except Therru, who has automatically earned a whopping Anders: friendship (+20).)

That +5 would be +10 if you hadn't agreed we should get the dragon out, by the way. Obi-Wan wasn't in the party at that time so he doesn't get any rivalry points or friendship points for objections he could have posed then or for his disapproval when he did show up.

Codex updated: If Someone Isn't In Your Party When You Do Something They Wouldn't Like, It's All GoodNot that +5 rivalry from Anders is anything to fret over. If you really feel badly about it (and you ( ... )

(Hawke misses her previous status of maxed-out friendship level where she was exempt from losing points; perhaps if there are manifestoes later she can offer to proofread and get some points back that way. Or draw him a picture of a cat)

Hawke's eyes narrow; she knows exactly what that vein throbbing in Anders' forehead and the tense way he's biting off words signify, and she doesn't like it one bit. "Good plan. Stay focused, Anders. For her sake." Draw his/Justice's attention back to the goal...

Right, find a shuttle. As soon as possible, and for more than one reason. Clearly the sooner they're out of here, the better.
