It does sound very 80-ish. Back then in Italy there was this book series called 'Urania' that published that sort of sci-fi books, and I remember reading a lot of them as a kid. It's all sort of a mashed potato memory now, but I don't remember no sci-fi dolphins.

I'm trying to imagine them now, and they look amazing. :D

There are definitely some crazy things in it that make it feel 80's-ish. I couldn't resist the dolphins, the talking dolphins with little spider-walking things! We need more crazy sc-fi like that, not just stuff that people only thought up in the eighties.

I was a bit unsure about the series, because I worry about big time jumps and completely different settings for sequels. But the universe is interesting enough that I didn't mind at all. I just wanted to see more of it.

I'm definitely going to read Uplift War eventually though!

I don't think we'd yet discovered that dolphins are perfectly capable of being completely awful and disturbing in their very own ways

I am now morbidly curious about what disturbing things dolphins do...

You should definitely google it if you're not worried about scarring yourself. It seems like every dolphin story that comes out recently is about them ganging up on other species and their babies, by driving them into rocks or swimming them to exhaustion, or various types of weird, aquatic sexual deviancy
