Things like this just make me sick. As much as I didn't like EchoJail I did understand what my Indian coworkers went through, because they were being racially profiled and routinely searched when they needed to travel for business, and that was the annoying mild level of the entire situation.
Glad to see you picking this up. I'm surprised there has not been more widespread coverage of this. I've got a particular ear to the ground for actions at other UC Campuses. I'm just incensed.
You beat me to it. I was going to post last night, but got in very late from a class. I'm positive we'll be seeing more in a few days when the shit hits the fan.
Of course, I'm sure there will be people who will argue that he deserved it for not complying instantly.

Have you watched the video yet?
In the video, he's not shouting at the other students to riot, or anything. Sure, he's grandstanding, but nobody's moving. I've already mentioned why he didn't show his ID, and the fact of his passive resistance. Nobody's claiming he's a random innocent bystander who was attacked - just that their reaction was out of line.
Cops deal with passive resistance in protest situations all the time. Their escalation of force is the key issue here - it was completely inappropriate to the situation. Multiple taserings was out of line.
After police started firing the Taser, Tabatabainejad tried to "get the beating, the use of brutal force, to stop by shouting and causing people to watch. Generally, police don't want to do their dirties in front of a lot of witnesses."If I was getting tasered, I'd probably shout too
( ... )

From another bruin article:
Neither the video footage nor eyewitness accounts of the events confirmed that Tabatabainejad encouraged resistance, and he repeatedly told the officers he was not fighting and would leave. .
