[Fanmix] Harper's Island: Henry Dunn
This was made for fst's challenge this month for a mix focusing on a character's growth/development. Originally I had the idea to choose a song for each episode of HI in which Henry appears, but then I didn't want to put the extra hours of work into that (I've only watched the series once) and I did have some good choices already picked out.

****SPOILERS: Do NOT read my notes unless you have finished ALL 13 EPISODES of Harper’s Island because this will totally ruin you.****
Title: Welcome Home
Notes: Henry Dunn, he’s a nice guy, right? His biggest secrets I did not suspect before the revelation, except one idle thought that passed through my mind when Katherine Wellington was killed. (Okay, I had a "wouldn't it be weird if..." moment at JD's death, too.) Anyway, onto the mix. This does its best to track the bits and pieces of Henry Dunn we uncover throughout the series. This isn't a perfect progression, but all songs reminded me of Henry in some way.
As you move along the mix, Henry’s psychotic tendencies are reflected more and more obviously in the songs. I chose “All Good Things” as the closing song since I have this clear vision of a sort of “roll credits” for Henry. It also works in the way things are left for him at the very end.

infatuation turning into disease.

All I'm asking for is love,

Abby... and Jimmy. Henry's not so happy about them. =p
04. Decoy Paramore
You've never been so used as I'm using you, abusing you
My little decoy
Trish! (I got so excited when I was reviewing the lyrics, I've fallen in love with Paramore and then this worked so darn well!)
05. Between the Bars Elliot Smith
Do what I say, and I'll make you okay
And drive them away
The images stuck in your head
Could have gone later in the list, but I thought it could also fit earlier in the time where Henry doesn't seem too strange while comforting Abby through the horrors.
06. The Necklace of Marie Antoinette Hannah Fury
I'll make it look like an accident
I'll make it look like he was trying to hurt me
I'll make it seem like I was innocent
Again, a song too perfect to pass up.
07. Something I Can Never Have NIN
You always were the one
To show me how
Back then
I couldn't do the things
That I can do now
This thing
Is slowly taking me apart
Something from Nine Inch Nails had to pop into this mix, right?
08. There's Many Ways Afterhours
At some point when the pain
turns to horror
You can't feel anymore
It's proof that I am alive
If I kill you now
Kinda works for the final scene with Trish, and I was also thinking about how Wakefield's determined to have Henry kill Abby.
09. Runs in the Family Amanda Palmer
Time takes his toll on him it is traditional, it is inherited predispositional
All day I've been wondering what is inside of me who can I blame for it?
Discovered this song on someone else's fanmix for Faith (from Buffy) and I knew it was brilliant for this. Henry's so obsessed with this "real father" thing, the genetics of it, and gets caught up in the idea of proving himself to Wakefield and rebelling in anger against the island that should have been his home. He's one sick puppy, man.
10. All Good Things (Come to an end) Nelly Furtado
Honestly, what will become of me?
Don't like reality
Well, it all eventually ends. This song's also rather melancholy which, I think in the end, works well for Henry. Damn it, I still like the guy - just not his psychotic killer side. =\ I still desperately wish there was a different take on the situation. Ugh. I so want to support Henry and Abby. *sigh*
