CIVILIAN LIFE:

Q1. Name: Colette

Q2. How did you find out about Elite of the Fleet? Someone posted about it on ontd_pinto

Q3. When did you first become interested in Star Trek? I heard about STXI when it first came out, but I was unable to see it until just this past January. That, combined wtih a torrent of people talking about it on tumblr, I quickly got swept up in the fandom and watched and learned as much of it as I could.

Q4. Why have you decided to join Elite of the Fleet? It sounds like a great way to get more involved in the fandom, and I would like to further excercise and improve my writing and fandom skills.

Q5. Who is your favourite Star Trek character? Spock, without question. Not only can I relate to him, but I find his character very endearing and he would certainly be someone I would want to know were he real.

Q6. And the least? I don't dislike anyone, but if I had to say the character I care for the least in most situations it would be Chapel.

Q7. Which television (or film) series is your favourite? Reboot & The Original Series

STARFLEET LIFE:

Q8. What do you hope to gain from your service in Starfleet? I hope to become more adept at my skills in writing, drawing, and creating. I also hope to make new friends.and learn more about the Trek fandom.

Q9. Is there any occupation in Starfleet you feel you would be particularly unsuited for? Nothing in particular. I would give my best to any occupation assigned me. I always make time for these activities, and they fit comfortably into my real life.

Q10. The four current Academic Tracks at the Academy are Tactics, Operations, Exploratory Sciences and Medical Sciences. Describe how you could be an asset to each of these departments.
Tactical: [FYI: Navigation, Piloting, Command Specialisation - sometimes known as Command Division] I have experience being in charge of small groups. I have directed people (in theatre skits) and I have also been a stage manager for groups of 12-30 people.
Operations: [FYI: Engineering, Diplomacy, Administration, Communications, Security] I have been on building crews, I take direction well. Also I know how to play administrator, I have occasionally needed to step in to play leader in a project and to oversee the going-ons of a group
Exploratory Sciences: [FYI: Physics, Xenobiology, Xenobotany, Chemistry, Astronomy, Mathematics] I have a great interest in science and astronomy especially. I love knowing how things work, and enjoy being able to explain this to others. I'm afraid mathematics is my weakest point. I find it frustrating, but I do my best.
Medical: [FYI: General Practitioners, Physiology, Psychology, Psychiatry, Nursing, Specialisations] My medical knowledge is only basic. Medical names of the bones, and not much beyond that. I don't have the greatest ability to show sympathy, and I don't know how well received I would be in this field.

Q11. What are your top five strengths?
01. Determination-when I want something I will work very hard to get it, and I will not give up easily
02. Understanding-I try to understand everyone's perspective as best I can, even if I don't agree with it
03. Relaxed-I am a very calm person under stressful situations. I rarely lose my temper, and in the times I do argue I back up everything with logical explnation.
04. Memorization-I do memorize well. I only have to be told/shown something three times at most. Though in most cases, only once.
05. Honesty-I don't lie. I don't approve of lying. And even if some may call it brutal, I will always be honest with you.

Q12. What are your top five weaknesses?
01. Lack of Empathy/Sympathy-I think these are similar enough to group together, But, I have been called "unfeeling" in the past. I'm not. I just have trouble showing it.
02. Intraverted-In new situations, i have a tendency to keep quiet and remain in the background. However, in an area I am comfortable, it is quite the opposite.
03. Stubborn-I can be stubborn at times. I don't give in easily.
04. Procrastination-I will begin something and stop, and forget to return to it. I am often putting things off until last minute.
05. Lack of social skills-I am often alone, so in the times I am in the company of others, I sometimes have to remember the way to behave

Q13. What is your biggest fear? I fear never accimplishing my life goals and ambitions. If I ever one day look back on my life and have to wonder "What if I had done this or that?" I will fell I have let myself down, and fear that i failed at my life.

Q14. Do you consider yourself to be a leader, or a follower?  In most situations, I am follower. But I also think you can't be a good follower if you don't have a good leader. I have the desire to be a leader, and to have that respect from my peers.

Q15. What do you admire the most in your peers? I admire everyone's strong individualism. How everyone is proud of the person they are. And they accept and acknowledge their flaws. They know that none of us are perfect. And I also admire the sense of belonging I often feel, that i can share with them and not be judged.

Q16. You are stranded on a Class M planet that has not been mapped by The Federation. You are only allowed to choose two of the following items to keep with you: a phaser, a tricorder or a communicator. Which two would you choose to have? I would choose to have a phaser and a communicator. The phaser for protection of course, as I am not the most able-bodied person to be defending myself without some type of weapon. And a communicator so my crew mates would have a better chance of finding me, and I would not be alone.

Q17. Please describe your understanding of the Federation’s Prime Directive. The prime directive is that the Federation will not interfere with the natural course of a still developing planet or civilization. However, there are circumstances i believe where this is to be taken under consideration, and if interferance will prevent the destruction of a civilization then it is also the Federation's duty to help.

Q18. The United Federation of Planets includes more than 150 member planets, and the galaxy has many more besides. Which planet do you most want to visit? In my own solar system I would to explore a moon of Saturn, and as much as I could of Saturn itself, it is my favorite planet. I also very much want to see Ceres, the dwarf planet between Earth and Mars. And of course, one day i would love to visit Vulcan and learn all about their culture.

KOBAYASHI MARU:

The following questions describe situations you may commonly find yourself in as a member of Starfleet. You will be read the scenario, and then given two options to choose from. You may expand upon the reasons for your choice, but you must indicate one of the two that you feel best describes your likely response to the situation provided.

Q19. Service in the Fleet can be draining at the best of times, and on one particular day everything seems to have gone wrong. You’re exhausted, but your shift is finally over and it’s time to unwind. Your roommate is already on their bed when you get back to your quarters. Do you:
b. Say hi, then stick in some earphones for music or grab a PADD for some recreational reading. A lie-down sounds pretty good right now, or maybe a bit of time relaxing on the observation deck - it should be pretty quiet by this time, which will give you a chance to sort through the day’s events in your head.

I'm not the venting type. If it is inquired upon, I will share. But I usually choose to just think things over. Perhaps write down my thoughts, or listen to some music. I enjoy my quiet time.

Q20. You’ve intercepted what sounds like a pretty important transmission - you feel like the Captain needs to know. When you report, do you:

a. Give them all the facts: what it said, what the voice sounded like, where the inflection was, the language it was in, and so on. Details and facts are the important part, everything else is subjective.

I am a very detailed oriented person. I will pay close attention to things like voice inflection, facial expression, etc. Facts are very important, and I will share my interpretation keeping in mind I must first deliever the message, and speculate it's meaning afterward.

Q21. There are many decisions to be made in Starfleet, and some are harder than others. Faced with a decision where things could go wrong in any number of ways, do you:

a. Stay impersonal and objective. Weigh up the pros and cons, think out all the possibilities, and focus on the basic truths. A careful analysis of the situation will reveal the best possible choice, even though some may not approve of it.

.Past experiences have shown me, that this is the best option. Although, it may not seem like it as first. There will be objections. But keeping in mind the ultimate goal in what we are trying to achieve, this is best. And eventually everyone will come to see that. Personal feelings can not weigh decision in such matters.

Q22. The day-to-day life of Starfleet can be quite arduous at times, and quite exciting at others. Everyone has their own way of approaching everyday work, but would others see your approach as:

b. Flexible and spontaneous. Others think you prefer to adapt to the world around you rather than organise it. You seem to be more comfortable staying open to information and experiences rather than making decisions immediately. You appear fairly casual, working in bursts and motivated by deadlines.

I may not always seem like I'm learning, or paying attention, but trust me I am. I hae my method of organziing, memorizing, etc. I learn in my own way, just as others will learn in theirs. No one way is right or wrong. I like to learn by experiencing, by doing, and seeing. I will sometimes appear to be doing nothing, and then sit down and finish everything at once.

Q23. You can earn 5 points for your future Track by promoting the community in your Journal. Please link the post here if you wish to do so:
