Re-reading this, I wonder if I commented before on how unusual it is that you don't name Rose, Jackie or Pete at this stage?

I am so very late to this comment! Yikes!

I don't know that you have, and I really had forgotten that I'd done that; I remember making a conscious decision not to when I was planning the story. The initial version was going to be this kinda dreamy thing, but, as you know, things got pretty concrete right away; as soon as Simon showed up, I knew my original plan was out the window.

I do tend toward very pronoun-heavy prose, though. I need to think about why that is.

This story remains for me the marker by which all other stories about the human!Doctor are judged. I always keep coming back, and always discover something wonderful and new. Only shyness has kept me from thanking you properly before . . .

It's fascinating here how well the narrative functions despite the scarce mention of proper names, the fragmentation, the jumps from time and place; it's an open narrative, inviting the reader in, much like the apostrophe beginning the narrative.

I plan to do a slow read through this week, and will finally be leaving behind comments on each chapter.
