Ahaha, no, in general. The fourth wall has been under constant attack since the first time a character was killed because the actor got a better deal on another show, and so on. I just can't ignore this anymore, in any show.
People are wondering how could Peter lose his trust in Neal all of a sudden. Well, the script told him to!
Oh, huh. That has never bothered me in my life, because that's the nature of TV shows. It just makes me sad.
Ahh, that didn't bother me at all. And that excuse is silly. Of course the script told him to -- it told him to trust Neal, too. So, idk. It's a TV show.
Well, yes, one could argue that everything is scripted anyway, but after they spent all of two seasons gradually building up the trust between Neal and Peter (The Story, believable because it worked; I mean, there are a lot of things plot-wise that call for the need to suspend disbelief high and dry because they just wouldn't work in real life, but emotionally it worked for me), in my view they threw it all away just to have some ~*tension*~ in the season finale, because Everyone Knows you need to have Tension and Dramatic Twists in a season finale. And for me that's not part of The Story, just a cheap plot device.
Hey! I owe you an email! (I did read the new draft and kind of didn't see anything that needed fixing, but that was days ago, so let me take a crack at it and I will send you something by tonight. THIS I VOW.)
I actually liked the finale. It didn't make me go into CAPSLOCK!mode and it's not been my favorite episode of the season by a long shot, but it was a solid episode and the cliffhanger was the sort of cliffhanger I handle well (to be fair, WC has always been good with these).
Heh, for me it's exactly the kind of cliffhanger that annoys me. I'm not that fannish about any TV show at the moment, so I won't be waiting for the next season with my heart in my throat, but it's just like the mid-season cliffhanger with Mozzie - there's a big punch, and then they're taking it back a notch.
I'm glad they didn't kill off Mozzie, I really am, but it's the kind of HEY LOOK BIG DRAMA TUNE IN TUNE IN, and then of course he's OK, everyone's OK, just kidding! But hey, we sure did make you tune in, didn't we? I don't like being pulled around just for the sake of it. Although blue_ant makes some good points above, WRT why it might be believable for Neal to be tempted and thus for Peter to not trust him. (Even though, seriously, the bit of painting? Like in this world of conmen and conwomen someone couldn't have broken into Neal's apartment and stolen it to frame him...)
The thing is, I objectively understand the need for a cliffhanger, so I've kind of resigned to their existence. But if there has to be a cliffhanger, I'd rather not be a cliffhanger that makes me fret and makes it impossible for me to get through the hiatus without anxiety attacks. So those "we resolve the big issue, but leave some things hanging" works quite well for me. And the mid-season cliffhanger with Mozzie... well, it was kind of obvious that Mozzie would be ok, so I didn't get any panicky about it to begin with.
Heh, about Mozzie I wasn't 100% sure, although women and love interests are fridged much more often than men and friends.
It was a case of "OK, show, if you really kill Mozzie I'll never forgive you, but if you don't and he's magically OK I'll never forgive you for messing with us for the sake of drama either". :D

Because of this episode? I'm totally not seeing where that came from.
I did find the episode underwhelming, too. And I didn't like where it ended, but I liked a lot of it as well.
But what were people confused about?
