Your best bet is a youth hostel! The YHA in the UK is really nice now - you can even get single rooms with en-suite bathrooms. Alternatively, you can sometimes get really nice rooms for cheap via Laterooms. If you get stuck, though, then let me know - I have at least one friend in London who would welcome a random houseguest (he has done a lot of travelling and so tends to pay it forward).

On the other hand! The North has a LOT of wonderful places to visit, and it's much, much cheaper here. I can tell you loads of awesome places to go, and will even go one or two of them with you. It's such a shame that I won't be living in Newcastle any more, but still!

Hmm, London by myself versus the North partly with Zooey, this is intriguing!

I'd still need some place to stay, though. *g* And did you mean places concentrated in one place or even as far as, say, Glasgow? Or some castles, I love castles.

I stayed at the Jesmond Hotel when I was there, and would definitely return! It was one of the cheapest B&Bs I found, the location is great and there's (a filling) breakfast every morning as well :)

I was in a twin with shared toilet/shower to save money & I rarely ever had to queue/wait. They were generally rather clean so it wasn't too bad even if you can't get an en-suite.

You're going to Connotations? Argh, I still haven't made it and each year I promise myself it'll be the next year... Won't be for this one in any case :(
