Books Read MeMe

Copied from silver_trails and alexcat...

The BBC thinks you will have read six of the books on this list. Many of these titles are classics so I'd think that if you ever went to school, you'd have read more. Copy and paste your bolded books read an italicized books not completed, and then sum up with a head count, so to speak ( Read more... )

I did this ages ago - wonder if I could be lazy and find it again instead of starting from scratch *g*. I've read a lot of these, though there's a handful that would end up in italics.

I think the more science fiction type of classic wasn't top of mind here. I think Solzhenitsyn’s not as well read as he once was, though I would have liked to see one of his works on there at least. Lord of the Rings is there though - it's at #2

Shoot, you're right. I thought only The Hobbit was on there. My bad!

I would like a list that is more representative of true world literature (come to think of it, I should include "Cry the Beloved Country" on that too... Sorry...I digress :-) There is so much good literature out there, Ack! There is no Poe on this list! Sorry, digressed again...Oh! Shiny!

It's very British - which is right and proper from the BBC *g* - but doesn't allow for regional variations. I've read most of these but there was a more American oriented list some time back and there were works on it I'd never heard of that everyone else seemed to have read.

I was thinking 'but Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” is right there at number 2', as well!

52, wow! I've read 23. (I have no idea why people love Watership Down so much when Duncton Wood is sooooo much better.) I agree, there are tons of wonderful books missing from the list.

I hate to tell you this - but actually the BBC neither wrot the list, nor said you were likely to only have read 6 books from it. The original BBC list was actually to do with people's favourite and was drawn up as part of The Big Read, 10 years ago - here it is.

But you will notice that it isn't exactly the same as the one currently doing the rounds of Facebook and now here - it is more Brit-centric. There is an article here looking at the way the original list was changed and became a meme...!

Actually, I think I might post this in my journal, as it is quite interesting.

Favorite books makes a bit more sense (although I still have to question some of them on there). Thanks for the article link, that was quite interesting.
