Vacation Prep and Various Thoughts

Jun 02, 2012 05:53

I leave for vacation on Tuesday and I'm finally starting to get a bit excited about going back to Milwaukee and seeing my beading and writing friends once more. I'm reviewing what I want to pack, and it is an indication of how sick I am (LOL) that the first things I am deciding is whether to bring colored pencils or only my graphite ones on the ( Read more... )

I've been listening to a lot of folk music. Jean Ritchie, Anne Briggs, Stan Rogers, Doc Watson, Nick Drake -- you get the idea. :)

Love the link, even though I've never been high on the folk music style. I like Celtic music, but I've never been really fond of American folk music or Bob Dylan or Joan Baez or, or, or... But Vassar Clements - I adored his music. Such a talent!

I guess I'm always a bit more instrumental at heart :-)

Here's a link to one of my favorites for you...

Oh off course I know Vassar Clements! Great music. ::happy sigh:: (Something else to go on my iTunes 'replace' list as well.)

I love those happy birds!

allow an author to clear their mental space and allow themes, characters, and other things such as story lines to enter into the brain.

That's the only way I can write. I need time, silence, and no interruptions.

True silence drives me into deep waters. I need sound. :-)

I almost always need music to write. I need music in general. If I don't have my MP3 player (well, mobile with MP3 player capacity), laptop, or radio playing music, I inevitably end up singing if no one's around to annoy with it.

Second reference to Florence and the Machine on my f-list so far today. I absolutely love them. =]

They are relatively new to my stable of musical groups, but I enjoy them. Do you have a favorite album or song of theirs? I do need to make sure that I load my Nano with fun things before I leave, although I can reload via my laptop while on my trip if necessary. When I'm working, though, I don't want words in my music (the words get in the way of character dialog to me) so I'll listen to jazz or Santana or classical by choice.

Thus far, their only two albums are Lungs and Ceremonials. I think the latter has more songs I'd consider my favorites, but both are good.

My very favorite song of theirs is 'Spectrum,' which has come to be sort of an anthem for my interpretation of the Tolkienverse. A more 'fun' song in terms of upbeat is 'Stragneness and Charm.' 'Cosmic Love' is another favorite of mine.

I have Lungs and still need to pick up Ceremonials. The coffin song on Lungs is one of my favorites though :-)

Maybe I'll treat myself to Ceremonials when I get back from vacation in a week or two.

Oh, that was very nice, Miz Mik. She quite obviously has some serious ballet training in her background and even in the parts where she wasn't directly playing she still kept her bowing and basic string positions intact. I loved the locale too. Very nice and I thank you for passing on such a nice gift for my day :-)

Oh, and she is VERY different from Apocalyptca :-)
