V for Vendetta whitewashing history.

Did it bother anyone else, that V for Vendetta glossed over the fact that Guy Fawkes and his co-conspirators were not any kind of true "revolutionaries" at all, but Roman Catholics who wanted to kill the King of England, and the protestant aristocracy? alephomeqa, what is the true history? Catholics taking down the King? Why? I just watched this movie last night and I had one of the moments that I felt I was suppose to making some connection here, but I did'nt get what. Today Iam bored and surfing around groups and come into this post. Teach me the true history, maybe my answer lies there.

Supposedly they were Roman Catholics who wanted to kill the King, and the aristocrats of England because they were Protestants (a rival sect of christianity). The fact that England wanted it's own religion answerable only to the king, was a grave blow to the power of the Pope and the Church in Rome. Supposedly members of the Jesuits, or the Society of Jesus - an order of the Roman Catholic church - were the instigators of the plot, and convinced the conspirators to go through with their plan.
