OMG how I loved the orphans Tales books. They were amazing how each story blended into the next and everything interconnected. I think I need to find them in Hard back.
I know! I was totally blown away by the sheer craft of the stories. Secondary characters becoming main characters in other tales, all of them intertwining to make a whole, little pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. Now that's something :)
the author is truly amazing. I don't think I've ever read a book of short stories where characters weave in and out of other stories . Now you've inspires me to go re read them .
Oh you should, and do re-read them one after the other. I read the second one a year after the first one (and didn't have the first one with me) and I regretted not being able to go check on some details that I had forgotten. It's just so full of characters and details, that they truly deserved to be read as one big book.
Yes! I liked it a lot! DO you mind ebooks? I used to mind, but where I am right now, sometimes I have no choice but to read ebooks if I want to read something. Anyway, if you don't mind I could send you the Penderwicks book... Hope you are well!
flb' books are very hit or miss with me, so far anyway. I won't deny that her prose is absolutely beautiful, and I love it, but sometimes I find that it's also the problem. She makes everything sound pretty, including depression, eating disorders and abuse etc. And that's the main problem I had with Echo. She glamorizes everything

I thought the fairytales were wonderful. It was terrible about Eliza, of course, I predicted the entire ending, really. Though I did think that there were loose ends not entirely tied up. I would have liked to have heard more about Georgianna and the relationship she had with her brother and her lover and that whole situation. It was breeze over a bit, I thought. Have you read her other book The House at Riverton? It was quite wonderful as well.
At one point I thought the story would take a much darker tone, like incest or something, with the way the father was obsessed with Georgianna and then Eliza, bu still it was pretty terrible the way they treated her. I agree there could have been more details, though. I loved they way that the three main characters were written. All three women, I felt, were three-dimensional characters that I could relate and sympathized with. I haven't read her other book, but I'll put it on my to-read list. Do you have a goodreads?
I'm sorry to add to this post when it is so late, but I had to say I have never read any of Tanith Lee's work but have always wanted to. I plan on buying one of her books for my long summer off and was wondering if you recommend a particular one to start with?

I was so sad for Eliza and all that happened. I thought it was well but not overly written. I loved the fairy tales too!
