That fish reminds me of the Pictish symbol known as the Pictish Beast- which some think is meant to represent a dolphin.

Ah, yes! The Pictish platypus, as I like to call it. I think it does look like a dolphin, cruising through the ocean waves...

Neato!

I had a troop of Girl Scouts for twelve years. When they were about seven, I took them to a cemetery to do etchings of the tombstones-- some from the 1600s-- for our history badge. When they were teenagers, they STILL talked about that "field trip" as being one of their very favorite.

17th and 18th century tombstones are really, really good! We've got some nice ones in Scotland, and I've seen some really good ones on some US blogs, too. No wonder the girls were impressed!!
