I used to think "father, I killed my monkey" was a dumb-sounding weird opening line, until my friend Helen told me that she always assumed the line was built on the old "monkey on your back" metaphor. Then it made sense and now I love the entire song.

Like the line in Marianne about blubber . . . I used to think it was a dumb lyric until my friend Andy suggested that 'blubber' can be a verb.

I never thought of the blubber line in that context. A verb...simple, yet somehow I never saw it. Hhhmmm....must go listen to that song again...
