I just joined the community and I want to introduce myself.

I'm really not into sci-fi and I don't really like sci-fi movies or books (except for Monica Hughes' books, which are amazing) so it might come as a surprise that I like Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow. I'm pretty much a huge Broadway- I like shows from Rent to Avenue Q to A Little Night ( Read more... )

So this means, you're still pretty young? I mean ender's shadow came out 4 or five years ago, right?

You know that there are new Ender stories quarterly in OSC's Intergalatic Medicine Show (OSC's IGMS)...

I agree with you that the ender stuff including the speaker for the dead stories, which I really liked.

I don't think there'll be any other parallels, but you never know. Petra's story was too close to Ender's for most of the story, I think, and I think there's less that happens "afterwords" in her story, but that just conjecture.

There's a lot of really great SF out there, I think, and a lot of the kinds of stuff that is being written today isn't very much like what most of us think of as SF, as it was, even 20 years ago.

Yeah but it would be interesting to see the sexism she encounters seeing as there were like no girls there (I haven't read the books in a while.)

as interesting as I think that would be, and as much as I love OSC, I don't know if I would trust him to do that...

welcome! osc's stuff is always good for people who don't even like the genre of book, because he's all about the characters and characterization. glad you like the ender books!

I heart you. I don't like much sci-fi either, so it was a huge surprise when I ended up glued to this series. Although we have to admit it's not that sci-fi after all, especially the Shadow series. Plus, I like Harry Potter too

I loved reading scenes I had read before, opening both books (which I hadn't returned yet) and looking at the same dialogue from different points of view. That's why I loved Ender's Shadow so much too. Apart from Bean being a totally different character from Ender, I felt this book was so much more worked.. like, in writing quality. I simply loved it.

Have you read any other from any series (Ender's or Bean's)? They're amazing too, and even though my favorites are Bean's, I fell in love with the story reading Ender's side of the story. It's just a totally different theme, one about alien life 3000 years from now and the other a global war on Earth after the Formics war. It's jsut a matter of what you prefer, ethical debate or military context *grins*

I just heart them.. can't help it but get carried away

Do you know that there are about eight books, plus several short stories and more novels planned?

Ender's Game has two series --

(speaker series)
Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind

(bean quartet)
Ender's Shadow
Shadow of the Hegemon
Shadow Puppets
Shadow of the Giant

The Bean Quartet has a LOT with Petra.
