No, this had more to do with the sense of betrayal at the desertion of five year old Sammy who had spent two days and one night with Pastor Jim while his big brother and father had been off tracking and killing. Sam had long since forgotten standing on the front porch, reaching out his arms and screaming for Dean as the Impala drove away. Dean, however, had not and probably never would. So every year since, he made sure he and Sam were together on this day and quietly lavished some attention on him, always making it appear to be normal.
I could just see how that would affect Dean too .....
