Perils of Proof Reading

I was reading a blog post by Rick Riordan, the author of the Percy Jackson series, and came across one of his blogs extolling the ‘Perils of Proof Reading.’ It gave me some insight into the editing process that goes into publishing a book. It is quite extensive to say the least.

Whether writing or editing for pleasure or profit, I find that after I have read something more than twice I generally see it as I meant it to be, not as it actually is.

Exactly! After all those readings and proofs you see what you know/think should be there. So when a reader catches an error it's rather frustrating.
