"I'll pay you ten thousand," offered Robin.
God damnit, he knew the way to my heart. The ten grand wouldn't do a dead man any good, however. "Tempting," I said, patting Spartacus' spotted flank. "But I choose life."
"Are you so certain you wouldn't survive the attempt?"
"This is Nik we're talking about," I reminded him. "And while he wouldn't literally kill me, he'd make me wish I was dead."
"Are you a man or a mouse?"
"I'm an Auphe."
"The Auphe feared nothing."
"Yeah, and they're all dead now except for me, the one who fears his brother's wrath."
