Summary: Family and friends are a bitch.
I wasn't too proud to ask Robin to hook me up. I may not be fully human, but I was a typical male. Sex was important. As was my very real fear of impregnating someone or something. Goodfellow knew which females reproduced in a manner that would make it impossible for me to create any more bouncing baby Auphe.
Robin rocked back on his heels and smirked. "I believe Charm is available."
Charm. She was my first. It wasn't anything special, but I hadn't wanted it to be.
"Yeah? Would she be interested in...ah...spending time with me again?" I flicked a glance at Niko as I asked that. His lips flattened but he didn't say anything. I knew he wanted more for me than a string of meaningless encounters but that didn't seem to be in my future. I'd settle for what I could get.
Robin noted Nik's blank face. "Don't be so rough on your brother," he chided. "We can't all be a fool in love like you and-"
Robin's voice trailed off when Nik's eyes narrowed.
"What's love got to do with it?" I scoffed to break the tension between them. "I'm just looking for a good time."
Niko walked away. I heard him enter the bathroom and he returned a moment later and tossed a few condoms at me. "Be careful."
I grinned. "I always am, Cyrano." I knew he wasn't talking about safe sex. My brother had raised me. There were people and monsters out there who wanted to kill me. It was hard for him to turn me loose in the wild knowing he wasn't going to be there to watch my back.
I pocketed the condoms and said, "I can take care of myself. Slice of hell, remember?"
Twin snorts greeted my pronouncement. Jesus, it was like being mocked in stereo. At least my only family and one of my few friends weren't afraid of me. That was something.
Goodfellow looked at Nik. "Isn't Caliban frightened of clowns?"
I groaned.
"And now co-eds too, apparently," Niko added dryly.
"You pair of assholes can stay here and make fun of me all you want," I growled. "I'm sure I can find Charm in Central Park all by myself."
