I returned to the business of negotiating with Cal. "I'll pay you one thousand dollars."
"Make it three."
"Three dollars?" I teased.
My jest earned me a twist of Cal's lip as he sneered at me. "Three thousand, asshole."
I had better things to do with my time than argue with him. "Two thousand five hundred. Final offer."
"Done," said Cal, beaming as if he'd won.
Little did he know I would have paid him ten thousand. "Excellent," I said. "I must be off. Packing to do. Peris to puck. I'll call you when it's time to retrieve Spartacus, Caliban."
