dracoharry100 Christmas Challenge 2016 #31 - New Year's Eve Party
Summary: Harry surprises Draco on New Year's Eve.
Harry placed a festive bow on the tin containing Molly's fruitcake. He was glad to get rid of it, and if Greg Goyle enjoyed it, so much the better. When Draco and Harry stepped from the Floo at the Goyles' manor home, Harry gratefully handed Greg the tin.
"Happy birthday, Greg," said Draco, shaking his friend's hand.
"It's your birthday today?" asked Harry.
"Yeah, I was a New Year baby," Greg replied. "It was the only year that Mum missed the big party."
Harry wasn't certain if Goyle was having him on or not, so he simply smiled and nodded. He helped himself to a flute of champagne and joined Draco as they mingled among the other guests at the New Year's Eve party.

Harry managed to convince Draco to adjourn to "their" balcony early this year, claiming he didn't want anyone else to commandeer their vantage point for fireworks. Draco cast a Warming charm and leaned on the edge of the balcony, watching as guests began assembling outside. "This is nice," he remarked.
"Yeah, it's perfect," said Harry. He reached into his pocket.
"Any resolutions this year?" Draco asked him, gazing out over the gardens. He took a sip of champagne as he awaited Harry's answer.
"You may recall that my holiday resolution last year was to get a boyfriend," Harry said, withdrawing Draco's gift from his pocket. "I've decided that my resolution for the New Year will be to get a husband."
Draco turned to look at him. His eyes widened as he saw the small, wrapped gift that Harry was offering to him. "What is this?" he asked softly.
"Open it and find out, you plonker," chided Harry. When Draco set his glass aside and accepted the package, Harry wiped his damp palms on his trousers.
Draco opened his gift, catching his breath at the sight of the small jeweler's box. "Harry," he breathed.
"Just open it, please."
Draco opened the box, revealing a silver ring that gleamed in the moonlight.
Harry sank to one knee and reached for Draco's free hand. "Draco Malfoy, will you marry me?"
Draco's mouth opened, but no sound emerged. Finally, he managed a strangled laugh. "It's not the New Year yet."
Harry frowned. "Sorry?"
"You said we would discuss it after the New Year."
"That's because you were trying to ruin my carefully crafted surprise, you toss-pot!" Harry huffed when he realized Draco was snickering.
Draco used his grip on Harry's hand to pull him upright. "I will be honored to marry you, Harry Potter," he said, tugging Harry into a kiss to seal their troth.
The people on the grounds below began the countdown.
"Ten, nine, eight-"
Harry broke the kiss and quickly pushed the ring onto Draco's finger before kissing him again.
"...three, two, one! Happy New Year!"
Draco lifted his head, and the fireworks overhead sparkled in his eyes. He held his hand up to admire his ring. "Silver," he murmured.
"I knew you would prefer silver."
"It's perfect, Harry, thank you. Your carefully crafted surprise was perfect, too. I'm sorry I almost ruined it for you."
"Your mum nearly threw a spammer into it, as well," Harry grumbled.
"Is this what your clandestine shopping trip to London was for?" Draco asked.
"Yeah," Harry replied. "I've been thinking about this for awhile now, but I wanted it to be special."
Fireworks continued exploding across the sky, and they turned in unison to admire the spectacle.
"I reckon I'll have to buy you another pair of pants," said Harry. "Ones that say Property of Harry Potter on them."
"They'll need to say Property of Harry Malfoy."
"Mm, yeah...sorry...what?"
Thanks to all who joined Harry and Draco in another madcap adventure through the holidays! I enjoyed revisiting this verse and finding out what they were up to. Perhaps by next Christmas, they will have agreed on their new surname(s). Have a bright and blessed 2017, all!
