Summary: After sleeping soundly for the first time since the vampire attacks, Draco hopes he will be allowed to stay at Potter's.

Draco removed his pyjamas and stepped into the shower in his room with a sigh of relief. A full night of sleep had done wonders for him, and he hoped Potter would allow him to stay indefinitely. When Draco emerged from the shower, he paused in front of the mirror to check his reflection. The dark circles beneath his eyes were less visible, and the puncture marks on his throat were nearly healed.

Draco got dressed and descended the stairs, in search of his host. He was greeted instead by the same House-elf who had brought him dinner the night before.

"Elsie, is it?" Draco asked her. "Is Potter about?"

"Master Harry Potter is being asleep," the elf replied. "He said you are to be having breakfast and using the library if you is wishing."

Draco wasn't surprised that Potter was sleeping. Potter had promised to stay awake last night and stand guard. Draco hadn't asked him to, but the fact that Potter had taken it upon himself to do so was oddly touching.

Elsie served breakfast in the parlor, and Draco tucked into the food with gusto. He had been unable to eat lately, due to the fear and stress he'd been under as a result of the vampire's repeated attacks. Now that he felt safe in Potter's home, Draco's appetite had returned with a vengeance. He cleaned his plate and helped himself to seconds.

Once he had finished, Draco sought out the library that Elsie had mentioned. He was pleased to find that Potter had an eclectic taste in books. Clearly, there was more to his host than Draco recalled from their contentious school days. Draco lost himself in perusing the books until Elsie came to summon him for lunch.

"Is Potter up and about yet?" Draco asked her.

"I has not been seeing him," the elf answered, ears drooping and eyes darting away from Draco.

Draco found it odd that Potter had not yet risen for the day, but he was nonetheless grateful that his host had stayed up all night on his behalf. After lunch, Draco selected a book from the library and took it to his room. He hadn't meant to fall asleep; therefore, he was startled when a soft knock on his door awoke him.

"Malfoy?" came Potter's voice. "It's nearly time for dinner. Do you plan to come down, or shall I have Elsie bring you up a tray?"

Draco jumped, dislodging the book that had fallen onto his chest when he had dozed off. "Oh, er, I'll be down shortly," he said, pushing himself upright and swinging his legs over the edge of the bed. Draco dressed in something more appropriate for dinner, smoothed his hair into place, then exited his room and went downstairs to join Potter in the dining room.

Potter smiled slightly when he saw him, and it made Draco's pulse flutter. He hadn't seen Potter in well over a year, and he'd had no idea that Potter had become so attractive. That Potter was gay was no secret; there had been a huge scandal attached to his coming out and subsequent break up with Ginevra Weasley.

"You look better," Potter said as Draco seated himself. "Did you sleep well last night?"

"I slept very well, thank you," Draco replied. "I can't recall the last time I was able to sleep the night through like that." He placed his serviette in his lap before continuing. "I appreciate that you opened your home to me and that you stayed up last night to be certain I was safe," said Draco.

"It was no trouble, I assure you."

"Nothing happened, then?" asked Draco.

Potter shook his head as he opened the covered dishes and began passing them to Draco. "I detected no disturbance in my wards at all," he said.

Draco felt some of the tension drain from his shoulders. Perhaps he would be safe here, after all. He just wished he didn't feel like such an imposition.

As if reading Draco's thoughts, Potter spoke up. "You're welcome to stay as long as you like, Malfoy."

"Are you certain I'm not imposing?"

"Of course not," Potter said. "I'm rather glad to have someone to talk to other than Elsie."

Draco chuckled at that, and the two of them passed their meal engaged in small talk. Draco found himself enjoying Potter's company, and his body was reacting to Potter's proximity. He wondered if Potter was seeing anyone, and if not, what the likelihood was that he would end up sharing a bed with his host.
