Hm, I forgot about this. It seems to have been answered mostly by random drive-by people, which is awesome.

I closed it now, and I get 41568978ish for the average, making erotetica the winner at 10,000,000.

It was a free-text poll, so I was sort of expecting a couple people to supply infinite cardinals and win, or otherwise mess it up; it was odd to see everyone guess a positive integer.

Oh, right. Good point. Interesting (and makes perfect sense) that the two equilibria diverge so much - 0 is the right sink for finite guesses, and an infinite cardinal for unrestricted (but countable?) guesses.
