Hunger Games: Book 1 thoughts part 3

Overall, this book is cute, not great, but it will fill an afternoon. I still think it could have been better, the pacing was slow, with a lot of down time spent on Katniss sitting in a tree/cave. Agreed. I've certainly read worse, and the thought of finish the series doesn't make want to curl into a ball and cry. But I'm not sure it is worthy of all the hype either.

I just started the second because Amazon is letting me read it for free through my Kindle.

I think in terms of broad appeal, it's that B. I do think that for the niche it was written to target, it's an A. It's an excellent book to give to a 10-15 year old who's not that interested in reading because books are boring.

I have a special love for YA fiction/fantasy, and I've seen it produce better. Harry Potter, Artemis Fowl, Evil Genius, Alanna, and Redwall, being a few that come to mind off the top of my head. Hunger Games isn't in the same league as any of these. Plus, it's been done, and it's been done better (Battle Royal).
