The Apothecary is Now Closed.

My name is Severus Snape. I am a warden aboard this ship, assigned to Mozenrath. I have been here since September of last year, with one absence of three months. I arrived as an inmate, and was such for five months. My duties aboard this ship include providing potions for the infirmary and for my fellow wardens.

This got super long. )

You know, you got as far as explaining that this was harmless and I was just about ready to let it go as poor judgment and a misunderstanding, if you hadn't coupled it with being a total asshole I probably wouldn't have bothered to comment, but here goes:

People got spiked with something that led to them throwing themselves at each other. This isn't about them being 'visceral, violent, and unwarranted', this is an issue of people having no freakin' idea what had been done to them! Before you made it clear that this wouldn't lead to people doing the not so willing bump and grind? There's no reason for anyone but you to know that, and I don't know where you get off insulting people for freaking out over it.

People on this ship have been drugged and raped in the past and even though that couldn't have happened here doesn't mean that they don't have a right or a reason to be afraid of that. So get the hell down of your freakin' high horse.

To begin, I have insulted no one. You, however, have done so in exemplary fashion.

It is not for me to take responsibility for every injury done to people in the past, nor is it my responsibility if people see someone mooning over another and automatically assume that rape is somehow involved.

I have accepted and publicly acknowledged the blame for my part in this, and have offered myself up to my colleagues for judgment.

See, the bit where you dismiss the reasonable fears over this as just the unwarranted whinging of lesser beings, and assume that the problem here is that they're unable to fathom the mysterious powers of your works? That comes across to me as a little insulting. Maybe in your world this would only be seen as a hilarious prank because everyone would know that they were safe, as opposed to just you knowing that.

I'm not putting responsibility on you for what's been done to people in the past, but I don't like you sitting here acting like it's irrational for them to be upset about it either.

Hey, Harper?

I'm not condoning whatever, OK? But nobody was breaking their heads about this thing when we thought it was just another flood.

He knows the score. No sense in adding to it.

I don't blame you for this, but I wish you'd reconsider.

So long as I receive responses such as those from Harper, I know I am doing precisely what I ought to do.

I understand that.

So, your response to making a minor ethical mistake in allowing one potion to slip into irresponsible hands is to make a larger ethical mistake by willfully denying medical supplies that help alleviate suffering? Interesting choice.

Ethically, I ought never have offered my services in the first place - not to Aleera or the ship at large. The laws of my world are quite clear on that matter.

Perhaps. But once you've intervened, you can't simply go back to the way it was before without repercussions.

And laws and ethics are not entirely the same thing. A legal action can also be an immoral action, and an illegal action may be moral. But I suspect you already know this.

I have another reason to withdraw my offers - one which I prefer not to publicize.

A month ago, a warden broke into my room and stole, amongst other things, my wand. He also rearranged my possessions - including mislabeling the potions.

Your comment yesterday regarding Harper's poisoning, combined with Aleera's actions, has made me wonder whether this warden might have stolen something else and actively used it.

I have found nothing missing thus far, but that concern is enough for me to refuse to allow this to continue. I am clearing my stores of anything but the bare essentials.

I wish you'd told me - I wish you'd told everyone about the exact nature of this potion earlier, Snape. I really do. This never had to go as far as it did.

But that's not relevant. I'm sorry I assumed the worst. I was going by the precedent I had both from the Barge and from home, but I respect you and I should have thought better of you. I apologise.

Indeed. That is precisely why it has caused such a problem this week.
