[ As if seemingly from no where--or maybe she was really just there all along, silent and waiting--Effy produces a cigarette of her own, exhaling a thin line of smoke before turning to speak. ]

[ They've never met before but she stares right through him like they have as she waits for his answer, a smirk already affixed as if she knows his answer will amuse her. ]

[He turns his head when he hears her, taking a moment to take in her features and presence. She looks young enough to think defiance is something to aspire to, so he returns his attention to his cigarette, not very focused on the conversation.]

[ if she knew what he was thinking she'd laugh at how far off he was, her apathy being an immediate response to most things in her life but again, she was neither mind-reader or someone who was riled up enough to care at the moment. She flicks the ash off her cigarette and continues. ]
