It's about how the Celts and later the Irish monks started preserving Roman art, literature and other things while most of the Germanic tribes were busy torching them all. Preserved a great many artifacts of historic importance, and so Cahill argues that it's because of the Irish that we know as much about Roman culture as we do today. He also gives his own theory as to why exactly Rome fell, which I think makes sense, and takes a look at several historical figures, including St. Patrick and the Celtic traders that originally bought him through the slave trade.
It's an interesting read, if you're into history, and I think you've proven that you are. :)
