Request: For pathstotread, who wanted Elle and Emmett's first Christmas as a couple.
They're at Emmett's shitty apartment, eating macaroni and cheese, when Elle drops the bomb.
"Guess what?" she says, voice too bright and bubbly, even for her. Emmett knows her voice too well to be fooled. "My parents invited you for Christmas!"
Emmett drops his fork. Elle pretends not to notice.
"It'll be great," she continues. "Just think about it -- a vacation, Emmett. I don't think you've taken one in your entire life, have you?"
"No," he says slowly. "I haven't. But Elle --"
"Everything is all set," she says, as if he hasn't spoken at all. "My parents sent tickets for both of us and you'll stay with us at the house, of course, and really, it's just four days."
He opens his mouth to protest, to give her an excuse as to why he can't go -- he doesn't want a hand out, he can't be away from the practice he's trying to build -- but all of the excuses die on his tongue at the look on her face. She looks so hopeful, but so cautious too, like she's sure that he's going to turn her down.
"When do we leave?" he asks instead.
Elle squeals and throws herself onto his lap, peppering kisses at random across his face. He laughs and wraps his arms around her. They both forget about the macaroni and cheese.
