As some of you may know, I've been working on my Firefly AU, The Ties That Bind, for... oh... FOREVER AND A DAY! I can't seem to write linearly, or maybe chronologically is the right word. I have a decent outline. I know pretty clearly where I want to take the characters and where I want to end up. I've written several scenes already… but I'm ( Read more... )

I would do the first part, with the Firefly crew in the past tense and then the second part, with their children, in the present tense. Hope that helps!

Thanks, Nancy! Yeah, I've thought about it and I agree with you. I really enjoy the immediacy of writing in present tense, but I just don't think it would make sense in a fic that spans so many years.

Mal and Inara not last as a couple? Sure, the characters we met in those 14 episodes would not BUT I think there's growing to be done by both. I really do think that M/I have a better chance at happiness than Simon/Kaylee. Why? Simon did not choose the life he's leading. It was forced upon by desperate circumstances. You can't tell me he doesn't long for his other life. How happy could the guy be living on Serenity, taking care of a crazy sister? Also, all he has to do is wait around for someone to get injured. Mr. 3% cannot find that a fulfilling life. Kaylee seems too young and is looking for fun which is ok. Young women at her age should not be husband hunting ( ... )

>>Are you teasing me with the paternity issue of little Isabel?

Maaaaybeeeee... =D

Sorry it took so long to get back to you. I've been intent on sorting my notes out and refining my plot outline. I'll send those on to you when I'm done.

>>Do you have plans for their stories to mirror one another, or feed off another? Or are they completely independent? Mal has his life, she has hers and there is absolutely no overlap (except, the jobs he gets from her HUSBAND).

There's going to be a separation after Inara gets married - of course. (How well do you think he's going to take that, huh? Mmhm.) But trouble is going to send Mal her way - as it always seems to do - a new enemy in the guise of an old friend, Reavers, and the truth about Inara's past will threaten to pull them apart again, but they'll come back together, don't worry. ;)
