You walk towards your bedroom, pausing to yawn, big and silent. You don't want to make any noise. It was especially hard, putting him down tonight, and you're sure she's fallen asleep by now. Tiptoeing, gently undressing, you get ready for bed. Your muscles aching with fatigue, your bones feeling the day's worth of gravity that's been laid upon them. You lift the corner of the blankets, and only just enough, so as not to let in the chill. Then, finally, you're sliding under, first your left foot, then your right, settling into your spot. Both the bed and she have your body memorized and the two combined envelop most of you, her body melting backwards into yours in her state of almost-sleep. With a ghost's touch, you slide your arm around her, over her hip, with your hand on her ribcage, just below her breast. She makes a noise, low and deep from within her throat. "Is he finally asleep?" she manages to ask through her sleepy haze.
"Mmhmm," you answer, pulling her to you closer now, pressing the length of yourself against her, no longer afraid of waking her. "Shhh, go back to sleep, baby." You bury your nose into her blonde hair and breathe in her scent, feeling the stress of the day leave you. "Love you."
"Mmm," she hums again. "Love you too."
You take one last, deep breath of her, thanking someone, somewhere for the family you've found. Before you've completely exhaled, you're both asleep.
