Thursday, August 31st - our hotel here in Santa Marta is called "Soy Local" (I am Local), but the way i pronounce "Local," the English way, sounds more like Loco (crazy), so any time someone asks where we're staying it sounds like I'm saying "i am crazy."

About those waist pants: first of all, fashion is basically an engine for making profit, so the look of one season giving way to the next, and all the now-unfashionable clothes going in the trash. But also, women's fashions are different in that there are many more shapes available to us. Waist high pants are actually more comfortable if you have big hips or chubby hips, because the waistband sits at the waist instead of digging into your muffin tops. And hip high pants are cuter on people with pretty hips and waist, because they appear above the waistband. So really, the practical thing would be to have all these choices available at once, which is actually more common now than in the past.
