One of my hospice patients (who passed away years ago) worked for Hitler in the Youth Corps. She told me she did not like Hitler but knew she would not like prison either. Her choice was to do as she was told or be imprisoned. As a fourteen-year-old girl she did not have the option of leaving the country.
Like you, when I was 14 I was horrified by Nazi's and their mistreatment of others. I always liked to think I would be the heroic person who would change history, but reality is I would probably not even have realized what was going on.
