The guy I just met on the train back from DC is all jazzed to see this movie, having loved the book and the prior version(s). It's so far from my normal swim-lane that when he brought up wanting to see it, I didn't take the bait and let it parlay into a plan. He's so looking forward to it; I hope he likes it more than you did.

I kind of dislike this kind of adaptation if I'm understanding it by your description, especially if these "side quests" from the plot are made up of fictional or composite characters, the journalist in me hates when the plot progression is "tweaked" to some unknown end because most viewers will think what they saw is what actually happened.

I am also wondering why you need a German passport? What does this gain for you? Do you have passports from other countries, too?

I'm glad you were able to see the movie and mostly enjoyed it. I'm not a fan of war movies, but I also read the book in high school.
