A Fictional Non-Fiction Mefloquininated Fever Dream

Alright this next scene of the memoir is a bit different. I intend for it to be in a slightly different font, I don't know if this livejournal supports the "android sans" font but in my word document I'm using it for this section becaues I can put it all in italics in that font and it doesn't seem too tedious to read. Anyway, more discussion ( Read more... )

I like this sequence, it’s reminiscent of Yaa Gyasi’s Homegoing, which is partially set in times of the African slave trade.

There’s a lot of info dumping in that last block. Can you break it up at all with some elements of “so I am told” or “so you can read in X” so it’s clearer that you are out of the dream and dropping into history?

Thanks for pointing out that info dumping. I want to try to keep it in dream sequence I'll see if I can insert a "dream" of the independance celebrations or something. (:

African history is... complicated, certainly & you're right - most of us white folk are taught that there was 'nothing' there until Europeans colonised its parts - just like the history of Australia's aboriginal inhabitants has been 'whitewashed'...

I feel kind of gypped that I had been lead to believe there was no coherent history there, in fact there's a lot of very interesting kingdoms! The Queen Amina only passingly mentioned above was a warrior queen reputed to have killed all her lovers the next morning so man alive could say he'd bedded her!
