Questing for Appliances

I. The Greg Collection   In the beginning, there was nothing. Just the checker-board patterned firmament, and me laying upon it, rejoicing in for the first time having an entire house to myself, even if I would only be renting. In the normal course of things, I think people seldom have no furniture. You go out from your parents house with a few ( Read more... )

I'm so very glad my rental comes with the appliances. Well, I did have to buy the washer/dryer, but still, very glad.

Seriously it's such a hassle chasing after all these things! Haha the first house I looked at I asked the real estate agent "where"s the washing machine?" and she looked at me like I was crazy.

I enjoyed reading this...your saga of the furniture and appliances.
:)

Most houses/apartments come equipped with all the appliances here in Spain and there are loads of furnished places and my daughter had trouble finding an unfurnished one.

It's a weird thing because as long as you've never had to furnish a whole place before, a furnished place is better, but once you've done it once you much prefer an unfurnished place so you can just bring your own stuff and not have to do something with it. But I do think it's weird and frustrating that they expect one to move with their heavy appliances such as fridge and washing machine here. Especially since both are prone to damage in transit.

My apt comes with all the appliances but a few years ago my fridge broke and it took longer than it should have replacing it.
Good for you not wanting to deal with bigots.

Haha I can't believe after the repair guy said it would take three months to get around to looking at it, I declared that to be too long, and then sat around with a broken fridge for just about a year ahaha

I'm so glad that my apartment was furnished. The only furniture I had that was worth moving was a dresser (now in my closet holding miscellaneous items) and my computer desk (now my kitchen counter).

Owning stuff really does weight one down. Now I'm considering moving to some other country with Cristina and the thought of having to dispose of a whole house of furniture and appliances really gives me a headache!

Adventures in appliance-ing! This is such a funny entry. I do rather love the way all our belongings have stories. There's a podcast I like called "Everything is Alive -" just, you know, a stethoscope, a newspaper, a set of Russian nesting dolls, talking about their lives.
